Telephone scams with unauthorized advertising calls!

Have you also been confronted with unauthorized advertising calls? Here you can find out how to defend yourself!

Do you know this too? Your smartphone rings and you don’t know the number? Unsuspectingly, you may answer the phone because you have a lot on your mind and are perhaps expecting important calls. You are greeted and recommended the world’s best product that you should definitely buy. Or you are asked whether the expensive electricity prices don’t bother you either, and you are offered a super-cheap tariff.

My colleague Patricia Lederer also experienced this last year. She immediately filed a complaint with the Federal Network Agency about unauthorized advertising calls. The Federal Network Agency examines these complaints and initiates administrative offense proceedings.

The complaint

Basically, we can only recommend hanging up immediately and blocking the number. However, if you also want to put a stop to these companies, you can submit your complaint here: Complaint Federal Network Agency

The invalid contract

When making such calls, you must always bear in mind that these calls are made on a large scale. Older people in particular, who are perhaps not yet so familiar with the digital world, are a key target group. But so does every other person like you and me!

If you’re not quite on the ball and fall into the trap of agreeing to a contract, it’s not the end of the world. This is because energy supply contracts may no longer be concluded over the phone since 27.07.2021. There are often several ways in which such companies proceed:

1. you did not agree to the contract and have now received a contract confirmation by e-mail anyway.

2. you may have agreed to the contract and received a contract confirmation with different conditions.

Don’t worry! These contracts are invalid unless you have agreed to the contract in writing. But then you have the usual 14-day right of withdrawal.

The termination

If you have not given your written consent and still received a contract confirmation, you should send a letter of termination in any case, because you will usually be hit with debt collection letters relatively soon if you do not want to pay.
